Overview

The United States will experience significant growth of the population over the age of 65 in the coming decades, which will contribute to an increase in the number of individuals living with chronic and serious illness. The lack of an adequately prepared workforce is a critical barrier to delivering high-quality, community-based care for individuals living with serious illness.

In May, 2018, a group of 40 experts reviewed, proposed, and prioritized recommendations to ensure an adequate workforce to meet future needs of those with serious illness living in the community. The attendees focused on recommendations on which there could be progress within three years.
